THE GREAT PARTITION

In Kingdom of Sweden, in the year 1757, the director the royal office for land surveying  was engaged in reforming the kingdom's outmoded agriculture. In the reform initiated by him, the kingdom's land possessions were to be redivided between peasants in a more efficient manner. This initiative came to be known as the Great Partition. The reform also reached the realm's easternmost parts, today known as the country of Finland. Slowed down by peasant protest, The Great Partition continued in the more remote parts of Finland into the 19th and even the 20th centuries. 

The partitioning was a delicate process, where the interests of the land-owning peasants of different areas had to be carefully placated. Nevertheless, this reform came to be a significant step in modernization of Finnish agriculture towards the agricultural Capitalism of the late 19th century. In other words, the Great Partition was a Big Deal.

BIG DEAL

It is now the late 17th century, and you are a surveyor in the employ of the Swedish Crown working on partitioning the Finnish farmlands. Your first priority is to keep all the house-owning peasants happy. The happiness levels of the peasants consists of two factors, the Surface Area of their lot, on which their RED HOUSE will be located, and the quality of the farming land contained within, represented by symbols of YELLOW WHEAT. Can you - a royal official with an uneasy surveyor's quill - keep even the most unlucky peasant satisfied with their lot?
